  • Lutheran Church of the Cross - ELCA The ELCA confesses the Triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. In our preaching and teaching the ELCA trusts the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe. ELCA teaching or theology serves the proclamation and ministry of this faith. It does not have an answer for all questions, not even all religious questions. Teaching or theology prepares members to be witnesses in speech and in action of God’s rich mercy in Jesus Christ.

Teaching for a life of faith

This connection to all of life is the clearest demonstration of the authority that the canonical Scriptures, the ecumenical Creeds and the Lutheran Confessions have in the ELCA. The Holy Spirit uses these witnesses to create, strengthen and sustain faith in Jesus Christ and the life we have in him. That life-giving work continues every day, as Martin Luther explained in the Small Catechism: the Holy Spirit “calls, gathers, enlightens and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth and preserves it in union with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.”

  • Senior Interim Pastor George Martin

    Associate Pastor Kari Williamson

Welcome to Lutheran Church of the Cross, Nisswa, MN. This is a community of faith open to all people. I’ve been in the ministry of the Episcopal Church for over 49 years. It included two settled pastorates of 11 and 14 years, and then I served in seven parishes as their interim pastor. I developed a strong commitment to interim ministry and see it as a time of opportunity and exploration for a congregation. It can be a safe time and a time of hope for a community of faith. Since I already know something of LCC and have been happy to be a “sometime” supporting member, I’m even more pleased to get to know all of you in the next few months. This is a strong vibrant congregation with a bright future.

Pastor George Martin - Interim Senior Pastor

Hello my name is Pastor Kari Williamson and I am the Associate Pastor at Lutheran Church of the Cross. I am excited to meet you and look forward to our ministry together. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and went to Concordia College in Moorhead. At Concordia I studied secondary education, history and with a religion minor. I look forward to learning your story and growing in faith with you.

    God's blessings - Pastor Kari

  • Biblical and theological foundation Members of the ELCA are called and privileged to participate in God's work in the world. God calls and empowers us for mission through baptism. As a community of believers justified by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8), we do not describe mission in terms of our own work but with reference to the healing, salvation and restoration that God accomplishes through Christ. We seek the guidance of the Spirit in our planning, while expecting surprising developments and unanticipated opportunities. Grounded in God’s love and forgiveness, we are equipped to live and serve here and now, in the world, with all its complexities, tensions and ambiguities. We have the courage to explore the world as saints and sinners are certain of God's promises and of the confident hope that all God's loving purposes will be fulfilled when our risen Lord Jesus Christ returns (1 John 3:2).

    This is Christ's Church

There is a place for you here. We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God's grace. Liberated by our faith, we embrace you as a whole person — questions, complexities and all. Join us as we do God's work in Christ's name for the life of the world.
